How the Companion Card works
What it does
The card belongs to the person with disability. At the businesses listed here, the cardholder pays the usual price and their companion – a family member, friend or paid support worker – gets their ticket free.
For NDIS participants, that means you’re not paying for your support worker’s ticket on top of your own.
On the day
Bring the card and show it when you book or at the box office. Many online booking systems can’t apply it, so phone ahead or book in person.
The card doesn’t guarantee a venue is accessible. Check access, parking and seating before you go.
Public transport
The companion travels free on Victorian trains, trams and buses. The cardholder still needs their own valid myki or travel pass. On V/Line, ask for a companion ticket and show the card.
Who can apply
You need to live in Victoria, be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, and have a significant, permanent disability with a lifelong need for a high level of support to take part in community activities. Applications take at least six weeks to assess.
