Dungeons and Dragons Supported Social Group

More than a social group.

We started our Dungeons & Dragons supported social group in 2022, inspired by participants who expressed a strong interest in playing in a safe and inclusive environment. We listened and created a group facilitated by support workers and guided by an experienced Dungeon Master.

From there, the adventure began.

Since then, we have seen friendships form, creativity flourish, and confidence grow. What began as a simple idea has evolved into a vibrant community and a success story beyond anything we could have imagined.

In 2025, we are expanding the program so more participants can have the opportunity to build DnD skills, make new friends, get out of the house, and feel supported throughout the experience.

About our program

Our groups typically consist of 4 to 6 active participants. All sessions are run face to face, led by your Dungeon Master Josh, with another support worker present to ensure one-on-one support is available throughout. If you would prefer an online version, please let us know and we can explore that option.

We aim to make these groups as accessible as possible, which is why we take time to learn about each interested participant before forming a group. From there, we work to establish a schedule that suits everyone and choose a location that is convenient. Our goal is to make sure you are involved every step of the way.

Meet Josh

With over five years of experience as a support worker and more than seven years of running Dungeons & Dragons and other TTRPG sessions, Josh brings a unique blend of empathy and creativity to every game, crafting safe and inclusive spaces where lighthearted storytelling thrives while embracing a touch of chaos in every adventure.

Josh runs these sessions alongside another support worker to ensure participants have one-on-one support available throughout the entire session.

Lets get to the specifics

  • Dungeons & Dragons is a tabletop role-playing game played in a group setting. It shares some elements with traditional board games but places a much greater emphasis on creativity and storytelling. An experienced Dungeon Master (DM) narrates a story that involves all the participants' characters, guiding them through adventures and challenges. Each character build has its own strengths and weaknesses, making teamwork essential. Progression and decision-making are influenced by chance, with players rolling dice to determine the success of their actions. Some campaigns can span months or even years, while others can be completed in a single session.

  • We aim to create group schedules that work for participants. While we understand this isn’t always possible, we want to hear from you about what times work best and will do our best to build a group around that. Below you’ll find a form where you can share your availability and preferences.

  • We use facilities such as game stores, libraries, and community centres. Our goal is to establish groups in locations that work best for participants. Before forming a group, we will chat with you about location preferences to help find a convenient spot. Below is a form where you can share your preferred areas.

  • Our groups are open to everyone. We run separate groups for younger and adult participants to ensure the campaign is friendly and appropriate for each age group.

  • The pricing listed below applies to group sessions held during weekday daytime hours. The standard charge rate for most group sessions is $35.12 per hour. This rate is based on a 1:2 support worker-to-participant ratio, with four participants in the campaign.

Due to demand for certain groups, pricing may vary. However, all charge rates will be clearly communicated to participants prior to any commitments, so you can make informed decisions.

If you have NDIS funding (Self-Managed or Plan-Managed), our programs are aligned with the following support categories:

    • Category 9 – Capacity Building: Increased Social and Community Participation

    • Category 4 – Core Supports: Assistance with Social, Community and Civic Participation

Alternatively, our programs are also available for private payment, offering flexibility for those not accessing NDIS supports.
