Child Safe Policy
My Pit Crew, a part of Safe Transport Australia (ABN 24 903 877 928), is committed to the safety, wellbeing and empowerment of every child and young person who comes into contact with our services, whether as a participant, a sibling or family member of a participant, or a visitor to our sites.
We have zero tolerance for child abuse. Every concern raised with us is taken seriously and acted on, and we hold ourselves accountable to Victoria's Child Safe Standards and our obligations as an NDIS registered provider.
We recognise that children and young people with disability can face additional and unique risks of harm, and that some may communicate in ways other than speech. Our policies, training and everyday practice are built to respond to this.
Our commitment
We work to prevent, identify and respond to all forms of child abuse and harm.
We create an environment where children and young people feel safe, are listened to, and know their views matter.
We employ best-practice recruitment, screening and supervision to reduce the risk of harm.
We provide ongoing training so every worker can recognise and respond to signs of harm.
We report all reasonable concerns to the relevant authorities, regardless of who is involved.
How we keep children safe
Suitable, screened staff. Every worker who has contact with children holds a current Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening clearance, alongside reference checks and induction training, before they work unsupervised with a child. We only collect information that is reasonably necessary for delivering our services or as required by law.
Ongoing training. All staff and volunteers complete child safety training at induction and at least annually, covering how to recognise signs of harm, the additional vulnerabilities faced by children with disability, and how to respond to a disclosure or concern.
Clear codes of conduct. Our workers follow a strict code of conduct covering professional boundaries, appropriate communication, use of photography and devices, and safe supervision, both in person and online.
Accessible ways to raise a concern. Children, young people and families can raise a concern in whatever way suits them: verbally, in writing, through a support person, using Auslan or AAC, or via an advocate. No child is required to raise a concern directly with the person it's about.
Safe environments. We assess the safety of our sites, vehicles and activities, apply appropriate supervision ratios, and regularly review our physical and online environments to reduce opportunities for harm.
A robust response. Any disclosure, concern or allegation is responded to promptly and appropriately, including reporting to Victoria Police, Child Protection, the Commission for Children and Young People, and/or the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, as required.
